Our Employees

The APCL Group brings together the leading commercial ship building and ship repair businesses in the UK.

The APCL Group of companies provide an opportunity to work on some of the most prestigious ship building and ship repair programmes in modern times, in first class waterfront facilities.

APCL's focus is on retaining and building skills within our Group. All of our employees are playing a vital part, in a truly global organisation, which offers a clear structure with opportunities for development and travel across the Group.

Commitment to Apprenticeships.

APCL is fiercely proud of its award-winning apprenticeship programmes which have continued to deliver high quality opportunities to young people.

It currently has 300 apprentices across all sites.

APCL A&P and APCL Cammell Laird currently recruit at least 70 new apprentices every year and the vast majority have gone straight into full-time, permanent employment upon completion of their initial training.

APCL offers apprenticeships including welding, plating, health and safety, shipwright, project management, marine engineering, port operations and more.

APCL A&P Tyne and APCL Cammell Laird are currently working on the Royal Navy’s Type 26 frigates and future MoD platforms, while APCL A&P Falmouth’s apprentices have the opportunity to work on commercial ferries and cruise ships

Graduates.

The internal technical department is embedded within the Group’s Cammell Laird shipyard on the River Mersey. The department has a successful and longstanding history of recruiting and training graduate Naval Architects and Marine Engineers, taking on new graduates annually.

The graduate training programme lasts for five years which sees progressive continual professional development and practical experience that supports graduates to gain Chartered Engineer (CEng) status with either the Royal Institution of Naval Architects (RINA) or the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology (IMarEST).

As the largest operator of commercial shipyards in the UK, APCL graduates are engaged in a huge variety of projects. We offer a vast and truly unique graduate scheme that provides key practical experience from day one.
