Hive Heroes Rise to the Challenge at Wirral’s Youth Zone.
The Hive, Wirral’s Youth Zone proudly hosted its Hive Heroes Celebration Event on Monday night (31 March 2025) bringing together businesses and teams from across the Liverpool City Region to recognise their incredible fundraising efforts. With seed money of £500, each business had to grow the amount to an ambitious £5,000, which could cover the cost of food at The Hive for a whole month. Businesses across the region rose to the challenge in spectacular fashion with just under £80,000 raised to date, directly supporting The Hive’s crucial work with young people aged 8 – 19 or up to 25 with additional needs.
Since its launch in October last year, the Hive Heroes initiative has been instrumental in supporting the 3,000 young people who attend The Hive. This year’s event was a true testament to the power of community and collaboration with APCL Cammell Laird, NatWest, Brabners, The MAPD Group, Hill Dickinson and a team of young Hive Ambassadors taking part. The evening marked the end of the challenge and was expertly hosted by two Hive members Charlotte and Issy, who welcomed guests and shared inspiring stories of the initiative’s impact. Attendees also heard first-hand from The Hive’s members about how the charity has positively influenced their lives, demonstrating the real difference these funds make.
The competition was fierce but APCL Cammell Laird emerged as the overall Hive Heroes Champions, having raised an astonishing £56,577 to date. Their fantastic contribution highlights the incredible commitment of local businesses in investing in the next generation and future workforce.
Speaking at the event, Ashley Pennington, Philanthropy Manager at The Hive, said:
“We have been astounded by the level of dedication, enthusiasm and commitment all the businesses involved have shown over the last few months. Charities are coming under increasing financial pressure and it’s essential we work in collaboration across all sectors to ensure young people get the support they so desperately need and deserve to help fulfil their true potential”.
Mike Hill, Managing Director at APCL Cammell Laird, said: “APCL Cammell Laird was delighted to take part in this year's Hive Heroes initiative.
“APCL Group is committed to investing in young people and giving back to our local communities and as such it was great to see our staff, supply chain and wider stakeholders come together to raise such a significant amount for the charity.
“The work The Hive does is truly life-changing, and we have been delighted to support the charity since its inception and will continue to do so to create brighter futures for young people across the Wirral.”
As the Hive Heroes initiative grows, The Hive Youth Zone looks forward to another year of collaboration, fundraising, and making a real difference in the lives of young people across the Wirral.
