The Armed Forces Minister, The Right Honourable Luke Pollard MP (MIN AF) visited APCL Falmouth last week along with Jayne Kirkham, the local MP for Falmouth and Truro, to meet personnel from the Royal Fleet Auxiliary (RFA).

During the visit he was hosted by the Royal Naval Regional Commander for Wales & Western England, Commodore Tristram Kirkwood RN, and Mike Spicer Managing Director of APCL Falmouth, who took time to talk about the important work carried out at the facility for the Royal Navy and Royal Fleet Auxiliary.

Representing the RFA was Captain Chris Ovens who briefed MIN AF about the Royal Fleet Auxiliary service as well as touring RFA Argus, the Primary Casualty Receiving Ship (PCR) of the Royal Navy and met some of her crew onboard.

“The team here in Falmouth are grateful to have the opportunity to be able to describe the hard work which goes into generating a Royal Fleet Auxiliary ship for operations and also reinforce The Royal Fleet Auxiliary Service’s unique value to Defence,” said Capt Chris Ovens.

“The visit to A&P by Min AF and the Member of Parliament for Falmouth and Truro has enabled us to demonstrate a continued success story for defence and industry collaboration.”

Mike Spicer, Managing Director of APCL Falmouth, said:
“APCL Falmouth was delighted to welcome MIN AF. We are proud to provide vital ship repair and shipbuilding services to the Royal Navy and 100 per cent of the Royal Fleet Auxiliary through the Group's in-service support contracts.

"Falmouth is a major maritime hub and over the last year has provided scheduled maintenance & repair to HMS Scott, RFAs Argus, Lyme Bay, Cardigan Bay, HMS Severn, HMS Iron Duke and HMS St Albans. Our agile approach helps underpin the performance and availability of the RN& RFA, ensures they are always ready to protect the UK against international threat.”
