APCL Neway Goes from Strength to Strength.
APCL Neway has had an exceptionally busy year, successfully delivering back-to-back projects for both commercial and defence clients.
Since joining APCL Group in 2023, the company has gone from strength to strength, expanding its client base and growing its team nationwide.
In the past year, APCL Neway has completed several prestigious projects for the Royal Fleet Auxiliary (RFA), including work on RFA Proteus, RFA Tidesurge, RFA Tideforce, RFA Tidespring, and RFA Fort Victoria. Notably, over 3,000 litres of paint were used to refurbish the main deck of RFA Tidesurge.
The company has also been entrusted with painting and blasting works for three Stena Line vessels—Stena Edda, Stena Embla, and Stena Adventurer—as well as projects for CalMac and the Isle of Man Steam Packet.
Expanding its reach into the South West of England, APCL Neway completed painting and blasting works on two cruise ships, SAGA’s Spirit of Adventure and Fred. Olsen Cruise Line’s Balmoral, in late 2024.
The momentum has continued into 2025, with the team supporting RFA Tidespring and RFA Fort Victoria, alongside a busy commercial schedule that includes work on IOMSPC Ben My-Chree, Mananan, Irish Ferries' Oscar Wilde, Calmac's Clansman, Mersey Ferries' Snowdrop, and P&O's European Highlander.
To support this rapid growth, APCL Neway has strengthened its leadership team with key appointments. Les Sutherland has taken on the role of General Manager in Falmouth, while Paddy Tatum has been appointed as Industrial Services Manager. Will Fraser has joined as Project Coordinator, Anthony Connelly as HSEQ Manager, and Lisa Samworth as Business Administrator in Falmouth.
Balmoral Project
APCL Neway completed a programme of blast and painting works for Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines’ MV Balmoral in Falmouth.
The project commenced with a high-pressure wash of the entire vessel to remove all contaminants. This was followed by the removal of existing coatings from 6,300 square metres of the underwater area using ultra-high-pressure techniques.
Once the surface was fully prepared, Neway applied a series of high-performance coatings to the same underwater area. The process involved the use of Hempadur Easy 47700, Hempel’s Nexus X-Primer, Hempel’s Nexus X-tend 27500, and Hempaguard X7 89900.
Additional work included cleaning and blasting the seachests before applying conventional anti-fouling to prevent marine growth.
Approximately 4,800 litres of paint was used during the refurbishment, helping the vessel’s sustainability and efficiency as it will allow the vessel to move through the water more smoothly, reducing fuel consumption.
